The conventions for an thriller mainly consist of sound, editing for example, quick cuts simulating the horror that the character feels, the music, this is very effective because it helps create tension within the film. For example films like 'Batman The Dark Knight' there are a lot quick cuts, low angels, and jump shots with locations in dark ally ways this is very effective because it's showing the conventions of a thriller, shadow like figures, dark corners, music that is parallel towards the action within the scene.
It is easy to recognize the thriller conventions with a movie because the key elements are, dark areas, creepy music, camera angles that show partial outlines of objects.
Thrillers give the audience a time to think about the storyline because it's like a mind game, constant suspense is being built up within the film and spine chilling tricks. for example, in the Film 'Drag Me Into Hell' when the women was in the shed there were constant signs of something larking in every corner but for a while it was only here figment of imagination until the old gypsy women pops out, this is where it shocks the audience because there was a high amount of suspense was built up for the right moment.

The Sixth Sense
The beginning of 'The Sixth Sense', type of editing used was just typography and tension building music, this is very effective because it draws in the audience by manipulating their minds. The music created by James Newton Howard was very effective because the text was in tempo with the beat as there were drums, it shows this is a thriller because of the Music played.
The background of the opening credits was very simple and plain (Black) but this is very effective, as the texts fades in it only shows the text to who is the director and so on so forth, it shows that the editors only want the audiences to know that who developed the film, who are the music developers, the actors and other people who are part of the crew.

Thriller Opening Sequences (Black Swan)
Black Swan:
The opening of Black Swan shows that it is a Thriller, i know this because there was a use of editing, lightening and and sound.
The editing used such as fade, dimmer, sudden cuts and animation, creates a spooky and mind chilling opening because it is showing opposites to what you would normally notice, for example when the animated swan appeared the mirrored appearance was a black swan to what a normal swan white would look like.
The lightening used consists of light and dark, this helps with the micro and macro elements, for example when the swan leaves the and moves on the lightening changes to a fast dark scene. then black feathers float down onto the screen to show that it is still about a black swan.
Black swan The sound (music) used withing the short clip started with slow low tempo beats with strings used, because it's building up suspense towards a fast hard drum beat, this would appeal towards to audience because its creating a image within the audiences mind to what the movie maybe suggesting to what type of thriller storyline it would be.
I conclude that this opening sequence is effective because it helps build a storyline for the audience because of all these elements.
